CMR stands for Carnegie Mellon Racing. Carnegie Mellon Racing is a FSAE electric racecar team based in Carnegie Mellon. Every year we build a new racecar from scratch including parts like the chassis, drivetrain, battery pack, electronics, etc.
I was responsible for the Drivers Communicatin Module, which is a board designed to facilitate communication betweent the driver and the pit crew. The Module I designed contained various features such as an option to select between Push-to-Talk or an automatic VOX system where the module automatically transmits when the driver talks. Additionally, the 4 layer PCB I designed (on Altium) featrued multiple low noise characteristics for the CAN bus, mic-amplification, power filtering, and also high frequency RF filtering.
At the heart of the PCB was the SA818 Walkie Talkie Module, a STM32 CPU. The other components were a 3.3v switching power regulator, various opamps for the VOX circuit, a mic-preamp, and a Low Pass RF filter for the antenna.
